1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between JARVIS Corp (Pty) Ltd, trading as Friday (“Friday”, “we”, “us”), and the person who registers to use the Friday service (“you”, the “employer”). By registering for or using Friday, you accept these terms. They should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information is handled.
2. The service
Friday is a WhatsApp-based household employment administration service. It helps you meet your obligations as an employer of domestic and household workers by providing: employment contract documents aligned to South African labour law; monthly payslips, generated when you confirm that a worker has been paid; delivery of each payslip to both you and your worker on WhatsApp; and leave records covering applications, approvals and balances.
3. What Friday is not
Friday is a document and record-keeping service. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice; documents generated by Friday are standardised templates and you remain free to seek independent legal advice on your specific circumstances. Friday is not a payroll or payment service and never holds or transfers wages; you pay your worker directly, outside the platform. Friday is not an employment agency and plays no role in hiring or dismissal decisions. Friday does not currently provide Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) registration or filing services; if these are introduced in future, we will notify you before any change to your service.
4. Your account
You must be 18 years or older to use Friday. Your account is linked to your WhatsApp number. You are responsible for keeping your device and number secure, and for telling us promptly if your number changes or you believe someone else has accessed your account. You agree to provide accurate information about yourself and your workers, and to keep it up to date.
5. Fees and payment
Getting started with Friday is free, and no payment details are requested during onboarding. Your first worker’s first payslip is free, once per account. Thereafter, an annual activation fee is payable per worker before further payslips are issued for that worker. The fee is the amount quoted to you at the time of activation (currently R99 per worker per year) and covers twelve months of service for that worker.
Payment is made through a secure payment link processed by our payment provider. Friday does not store your card details and nothing is billed automatically; when a worker’s year is up, we send you a fresh payment link at the then-current rate. Fees may change over time, and any change will apply from your next renewal, not retrospectively.
Activation fees are not refundable once the payslip service for that worker has commenced, except where a refund is required by law.
6. Your responsibilities as an employer
You remain the employer, and legal responsibility for the employment relationship stays with you. In particular, you are responsible for: actually paying your workers, lawfully and on time, including compliance with applicable minimum wage requirements; confirming pay truthfully, since payslips are generated solely from your confirmations; providing accurate information about each worker, and informing them that their information will be processed by Friday as described in our Privacy Policy; and complying with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and other applicable employment law. Friday’s documents and records support your compliance; they do not transfer your legal duties to us.
7. Payslips and records
A payslip is generated only when you confirm the relevant month’s pay. Once issued, a payslip is not edited or deleted; if a correction is needed, a replacement payslip is issued that supersedes the original, and both remain on record. Payslips may carry a verification reference. Records are retained in line with the retention periods set out in our Privacy Policy. Your worker receives their own copy of each payslip and retains access to their own employment records, including after the employment relationship ends.
8. Acceptable use
You may not use Friday to create records that do not reflect reality. Confirming pay that was not made, or misstating amounts to inflate or fabricate a worker’s income record, is a serious breach of these terms and may constitute fraud. We may suspend or terminate accounts involved in suspected fabrication, decline to issue documents, and report conduct to relevant authorities where we are required or entitled to do so. You also may not use the service for any unlawful purpose or interfere with its operation.
9. Cancellation
You may cancel at any time by messaging us on WhatsApp. No further fees will fall due after cancellation. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where a refund is required by law. Documents already generated for you remain yours, and your worker keeps access to their own payslip history.
10. Suspension and termination by Friday
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, misuse the service, or fail to pay fees due, giving you reasonable notice where practicable. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (including records, liability and disputes) will do so.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy, available at getfriday.co.za, forms part of these terms and explains what personal information we process, why, and what your rights are under POPIA.
12. Intellectual property
The Friday platform, its content and its document templates belong to Friday or its licensors. Documents generated for your household through the service are yours to use for their intended purpose.
13. Service availability
We take care to keep Friday available and reliable, but the service depends on third parties, including WhatsApp and our payment and infrastructure providers, and we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance or events beyond our reasonable control may affect the service.
14. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act. Subject to that, Friday’s total liability arising from or in connection with the service is limited to the fees you paid to Friday in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, and Friday is not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Friday is not responsible for your compliance failures as an employer, including failure to pay wages, and is not a party to the employment relationship between you and your worker.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you via WhatsApp or email before they take effect. Continued use of the service after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
16. General
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder remains in force. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Friday regarding the service.
